BJP slams State on farmers’ suicides

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticised the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) government for failing to address farmers issues. The party flayed Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao for failing to provide succour to the families of farmers who committed suicides in the recent months.

BJP Khairatabad MLA Chintala Ramchandra Reddy led a protest by party cadres on the issue of government’s failure to contain farmer suicides. He said farmers came under tremendous pressure owing to government’s failure in fulfilling the promises made in the election manifesto.

Party cadres took out a bullock cart rally from dharmashala in town and reached the Collectorate where they staged a dharna. Among others who participated were former MLA Prem Singh Rathod, party’s district president Ayyannagari Bhumaiah and former president Ravula Ramnath.

Massive protest in Nalgonda

Nalgonda Staff Reporter adds: The party organised a massive protest at Nalgonda district Collectorate here on Tuesday protesting the unscheduled power cuts imposed on agriculture sector in the State.

The saffron party activists led by BJP floor leader in the State Assembly, K. Lakshman, even attempted to gate crash in to the Collectorate, but the police led ASP, R. Rama Rajeshwari foiled their attempt. The BJP activists were taken in to custody and were released later.

Addressing the gathering earlier, Mr. Lakshman, said that TRS led government has failed in all fronts during their four months rule.

On his way to Nalgonda , he met the family of farmer who committed suicide recently, near Narketpally. Mr.Lakshman assured the farmers that BJP led Centre would support the farming community in all fronts initiating various measures in the coming days.

Arrests in Warangal

Warangal Special Correspondent adds: Scores of BJP workers lay seize to the district collectorate forcing the police to arrest several of them here on Tuesday.

Hundreds of party workers led by MP Bandaru Dattatreya and other senior leaders staged a demonstration protesting the severe power cuts and demanded seven hour power supply to farmers forthwith. They came in a rally from Ekasila Park to district collectorate despite police not according permission to them. The police tried to prevent them from proceeding thus resulting in jostling with the party workers. Earlier, addressing the gathering, Mr Dattatreya said the new State government failed to live up to the expectations of the farmers and power crisis only drove scores of them to suicides.

Terming the suicides of farmers as bad omen for the state and the government, the BJP MP wanted the TRS government to own the responsibility and come to the rescue of farming sector immediately.

Responding on AP CM, N Chandrababu Naidu’s letter to Krishna River Management Board seeking to direct Telangana government to stop power production at Left Bank hydel power station he said ‘The Chief Ministers of both the States should sit together and resolve the dispute’, he said.
