Bharatiya Janata Party Telangana State President G. Kishan Reddy on Thursday lashed out at the way the Telangana Rashtra Samithi Government's much-talked-about 'Mission Kakatiya' was being implemented and the way it was allegedly benefitting party leaders.

"The ambitious programme to de-silt tanks across the State was hijacked by the party, so-much-so, it had already turned 'pink' with Government Departments buckling under pressure from the political bosses", Mr. Reddy told reporters here on Thursday. He regretted that there was 'zero' space for participation of the Opposition parties and the people too.

He recalled how earlier, during the Telugu Desam Party's regime, a similar programme had taken the shade of yellow (the colour of the TDP's flag). “It is imperative that a 'Lakshman Rekha' be drawn between Government and the party organisation in the best interests of the people,” he stated.

Bird Flu

Referring to the 'bird flu' scare here during the past two days, Mr. Reddy wanted the Animal Husbandry Department to be pro-active and take the steps required to check the spread of the 'flu' so that poultry farmers did not suffer further losses.

On the compensation to farmers, who lost their crop, he said it should be given in tune with the latest guidelines that stipulated that compensation for loss of crop for those who suffered even 33 per cent damage, instead of the earlier policy of to only those who suffered 50 per cent crop damage.

SIT probe

As for the role by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), the BJP MLA wondered if the SIT would only probe into the loss of lives of those who were clearly anti-social and were alleged extremists / terrorists, or would also look into how police personnel lost their lives.

Mr. Kishan Reddy summed up, saying that policemen involved in such instances where 'anti-social elements, extremists and terrrorists' were killed in encounters should be rewarded with promotions and awards.
