The police arrested Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) cadre when they were protesting in front of the Collectorate against the reservation for Muslims and other religious minorities in education and employment, here on Monday.

Among those who were arrested were party district president Palle Ganga Reddy and leaders Dhanpal Suryanarayana, Alur Ganga Reddy, Amrutha Reddy, J. Gopal, Mallesh, and Roshan Bora. They arrived in an impressive procession to the spot amid tight security.

The leaders, who addressed the gathering, vowed to oppose tooth and nail the religious reservation, terming it “anti-Constitutional.” They criticised the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government of having an eye on minority votes with the Bill, even if the courts declared the provision null and void.

The arrested cadre were shifted to different police stations before being released on personal bonds.

In Karimnagar: BJP Karimnagar district leaders staged a massive dharna in front of the Collectorate in Karimnagar town on Monday, opposing the reservation for Muslim minorities announced by the State government.

BJP leaders, under the leadership of district president K. Srinivas Reddy, launched a scathing attack on the TRS for playing vote bank politics. They alleged that the reservations would betray the Backward Classes.

When the party cadre tried to force themselves inside the Collectorate, the police arrested them and shifted the protestors to the police station.
