Demanding attention of the State government towards welfare and development, the BJP leaders launched a 36-hour protest here on Monday.
They alleged that the State government is not spending the funds released by the Central government for which they were earmarked. They condemned the indifferent attitude of the government and decided to mobilise public support to bring pressure on the TRS government.
Launching the protest, party national executive member N.Indrasena Reddy said the Central government allocated huge funds for improving the urban infrastructure. However, the State government is not serious to secure them and spend them for the purpose, he said. Party State general secretary G. Premender Reddy, senior leaders T. Rajeshwar Rao and N. Venugopal Reddy were among those who addressed the party workers.
They accused the TRS government of diverting Central funds for its pet schemes such as pensions to aged persons, widows and physically challenged.
“Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao is claiming that he had enhanced the pension amount but in reality central funds were diverted from other works,” Mr. Indrasena Reddy said.
He wanted the State government to release a ‘white paper’ on central funds received for urban development and pensions. The public should know how the funds were spent.
Senior leader T. Rajeshwar Rao found that there has been a wide gap between words and actions in the State government’s functioning. The Cabinet Ministers are limiting themselves to statements and have failed to check the ground reality related to the issues concerning public welfare.
Senior leader N. Venu Gopal Reddy rued that road and drainage systems are pathetic in the district headquarters. “New colonies are coming up all over. The infrastructure remained the same over the decades. Development is not in proportion to the growing population and its needs,” he said.
Earlier in the day, a rally was taken out by the party workers.
City wing president Ch. Sunil, district president A. Ashok Reddy, senior leaders M Dharma Rao, Ravu Padma, Vannala Sriramulu and others were present.
