Bill provisions not in favour of ryots, say villagers

The farmers of Vemulaghat village in Toguta mandal have opposed the amended Bill of Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill (Telangana) – 2016 passed by Telangana Legislative Assembly on Sunday stating that it would not do justice to farmers.

They pointed out that there was no mention of revision of market rates as suggested by Union Ministry of Law and Justice, Legal Affairs.

“Will any former voluntarily comes forward to surrender his fertile land for a throwaway price? Will it not be considered as selling land to government under forcible conditions?” asked Hayatuddin, a farmer of the village. He has also asked how the government can acquire land from the farmers without holding Grama Sabhas and eliciting public opinion.

Apprehension is also being expressed on the Bill stating that its provisions come into effect from January 1, 2014.

“The Telangana State was formed on June 2nd 2014 whereas it was stated that the Bill comes into force from June 1st, 2014. On that date the State of Telangana did not exist. Then how will the Bill come into force? How do they expect it to be given assent by the President of India?” asked CPI(M) leader G. Bhaskar.
