The BC Welfare and Forest Minister, Jogu Ramanna, on Sunday said by giving pensions and honorariums to different sections of society, the State government recognised their contribution during the struggle for separate Telangana.
He said Telangana State became a possibility only due to the struggle by people from all segments.
Launching the programme to distribute honorariums to beedi workers at Adilabad MPDO office, the Minister said as many as 52,000 beedi workers have been identified for the purpose of granting them ‘jeevana bhruti’.
Of these 46,000 received the honorarium of Rs.1,000 each on March 1, he added.
Recalling the efforts made by the government in planning welfare of all sections of society, Mr. Ramanna said the beedi workers received a total amount of Rs. 46 crore on the first day of March.
He said nearly three lakh beneficiaries in other scheme also received Rs. 28 crore per month as pensions.
Sangareddy Staff Reporter adds: Minister for Irrigation T. Harish Rao launched the distribution of pensions for beedi workers at Siddipet on Sunday.
While extending pension personally, Mr. Harish Rao said that the programme was aimed at financially assisting the poor beedi workers who were in financial problems. He said that the scheme would be extended to all the eligible and those workers not getting pensions can submit their applications at mandal office which would be verified.
Nizamabad Special Correspondent adds: Minister for Agriculture Pocharam Srinivas Reddy has said that in the district as many as 84,973 beedi workers are being extended the Aasara pensions at the rate of Rs.1,000 each spending Rs. 879.73 lakh per month. Inaugurating the distribution of pensions to the beedi workers at the Rajiv Gandhi Auditorium here on Sunday, he appealed to the rest of the workers not to worry as the government aimed at sanctioning pensions to all eligible persons.
