District in-charge judge G. Radha Rani called upon police and other stakeholders to be sensitive while dealing with juveniles, while also advocating a friendly approach in such cases.

“Many a times the accused in POSCO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) cases are family members themselves, making them difficult to deal with. Sometimes the victim gets compromised due to prevailing conditions,” she said, adding that a report claimed that about 66 per cent of children face physical abuse. She was participating in a one-day orientation programme organised by District Legal Services Authority for multi-stake holders at the district court on Saturday

Collector Rahul Bojja said peer groups and family have a huge impact on children. India had a poor record on child rights as it had dwelt little on the issue due to the prevalent unified family structure.

While admitting that child marriages were highly prevalent in the district, Superintendent of Police B. Sumathi said the number of child abuse cases was on the rise.
