Banks told to speed up Aadhaar-seeding process

Commissioner of Civil Supplies asks banks, particularly Axis Bank and ICICI Bank, to provide closed accounts’ list to oil marketing companies to advise customers suitably

December 21, 2014 12:13 pm | Updated 12:13 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The Civil Supplies Department has asked banks and oil companies to speed up seeding of bank accounts and Aadhaar numbers for implementation of direct benefit transfer of LPG subsidy (DBTL) from January 1, 2015 in all districts. It is being implemented in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Adilabad districts now.

In a meeting of the oversight committee on DBTL attended by Assistant Director General of UIDAI, State-level coordinators of oil companies and State-level bankers here on Saturday, Commissioner of Civil Supplies C. Partha Sarathi asked the bankers to solve the software-related problems faced by the banks while switching over bank accounts by domestic LPG consumers.

He asked the officials of Axis Bank and ICICI Bank, in particular, to provide closed accounts’ list to oil marketing companies for advising the customers suitably. Further, the Commissioner suggested the oil companies to display banners and posters on DBTL at all bank branches.
