Bustling Sircilla textile town in Karimnagar district wore a deserted look on Friday following a bandh call given by the opposition parties demanding the formation of separate Sircilla district instead of merging it with the proposed Siddipet or Kamareddy districts.

The opposition leaders of Congress, TDP, BJP, YSRCP, CPI, BSP, ABVP students wing and other activists took out a procession in the town and staged a rasta roko raising slogans against the merger of Sircilla Assembly segment with the proposed Siddipet and Kamareddy districts. They demanded the carving out of a separate Sircilla district with Sircilla as headquarters along with Vemulawada Assembly segment.

The busy textile town with the sounds of the powerlooms remained silent following the bandh. All the shops and business establishments also remained closed. The RTC operated its services normally.
