Andhra University will introduce a PG diploma course in public relations and a diploma course in genetic counselling from this academic year.

The Academic Senate of the university, which met here on Saturday, gave its consent to the new courses and also approved a suggestion to rename the BBM course as BBA and to introduce nine specialisations in the M.Sc. (chemistry) programme. Certificates will be issued separately for the specialisations and those who have passed the course in the past could also receive certificate with their specialisation mentioned on it, by paying a fee of Rs. 1,000.

The Academic Senate has also approved the CBCS method in common grading and syllabi and examination method for the Japanese, soft skills and journalism diplomas.

Vice-Chancellor in-charge E.A. Narayana, who presided over the meeting, said the temporary campus of the Indian Institute of Petroleum would be located in the AU College of Engineering. He expressed happiness over the university receiving NAAC accreditation with 3.6 points and thanked former Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju and others for the same. The State government was thanked for allotting a block grant of Rs. 298.25 crore and giving consent for recruitment of 281 teachers.

AU College of Arts and Commerce Principal M. Sundara Rao presented the annual report and EC member M. Prasada Rao presented the Rs. 428.16-crore budget and explained the development works to be taken up.

Former and present faculty members, who were appointed as Vice-Chancellors of other universities -- A. Rajendra Prasad, S. Ramakrishna Rao and M.S. Prasada Rao and professors Purnachandra Rao, Satyanarayana and Subrahmanyam, who were appointed members of the State BC Commission were congratulated.

Registrar V. Umamaheswara Rao, former Vice-Chancellors Koneru Ramakrishna Rao, K.V. Ramana, Y.C. Simhadri, Beela Satyanarayana and G.S.N. Raju, EC members and Senate members like S.V. Adinaryana Rao participated in the discussion.
