About 600 Asha workers in the district were reportedly taken into custody to prevent them from proceeding to Hyderabad to take part in their state-wide protest demonstration at Indira Park, since last night. They were all released by Friday afternoon.

There was high drama at the toll gate at Indalwai when the Dichpally police prevented protesters from proceeding to the State capital. The workers resisted the police, resulting in injury to an Asha worker, Bhulakshmi, from Bodhan. Protesting the incident, Asha workers and CITU activists burnt the effigy of the government at NTR Chowrasta here.

Talking to The Hindu , CPI (M) leader Noorjahan said that the government had unleashed terror on Asha workers across the district. The police arrested them indiscriminately and checked buses, trains and all vehicles as part of their operation, subjecting passengers to inconvenience, she said.
