Andhra Pradesh will soon set up its own company for implementing energy efficiency programmes on a larger scale and tune it with global practices.
The proposed entity will be like the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), the joint venture of PSUs of the Ministry of Power, which is engaged in similar activities, says Ajay Jain, Principal Secretary of Energy, Infrastructure, and Investment, and CRDA.
Addressing the media along with APGenco Managing Director K. Vijayanand here on Saturday, Mr. Jain said that the company would have public sector power utilities — APGenco, APTransco, and Discoms — and State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM) as partners.
The new company would take forward the Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP), municipal street lighting, and Agricultural Demand Side Management (AgDSM) programmes.
It would take the help of the EESL for achieving better efficiencies in the sector.
Under the AgDSM project, two lakh energy efficient pumpsets would be installed in a phased manner. The initiative is expected to result in saving of 1,620 million units and monetary savings of nearly Rs.635 crore.
Smart streetlights project
Mr. Jain said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would inaugurate smart streetlights project in 30 municipalities from Vijayawada through remote control on April 7.
The target is to install 5.5 lakh LED streetlights in 110 municipalities. Of them, 3.25 lakh have been set up till date.
The programme has been completed in 43 urban local bodies. The energy efficient fan programme would be launched in Vijayawada and Narsapur soon, he said. Mr. Jain said that a two-day international workshop on ‘Energy efficient lighting — Urban experiences and implementation practices’ would be held at Hotel Gateway in Vijayawada from April 7.
