Unmindful of the acrimonious arguments by the Chief Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the artisans of Bommuluru near Vijayawada are working overtime to fulfil the dreams of their Telangana brethren.

Responding to a call by Telangana Deputy Chief Minister T Rajaiah, the sculptors are working round- the-clock at Sri Saibaba Mega Silpasala and are giving finishing touches to the statue of former Prime Minister P.V.Narasimha Rao.

The 9-ft (standing) statue weighing 500 kg will be installed near Hanumakonda bus stand on June 28 by Ekasila Education Society to mark the 95th birth anniversary of the ‘Telugu Bidda’, who not only became the first Prime Minister from the South India but also was instrumental for the slew of economic reforms.

“A week ago, Mr. Rajaiah gave us the order worth Rs. 6 lakh. Owing to the time factor, our artisans worked 24x7 to meet the deadline. The gold-coated statue, which is getting the final touches, will be shifted in a truck to Warangal,” said B. Prasad and K. Prasad of the Silpasala

Explaining the making of the statue, Mr. B. Prasad said the image was first created in clay. “Later we used plaster on the mould. Then we used fibreglass and cut the entire mould into pieces. We applied the necessary dye before fixing them by using welding machines and rivets. Finally we applied the gold colour to the structure.”

With Telangana government declaring P. V. Narasimha Rao’s birthday as Official State function the duo is expecting good number of orders of the diminutive leader in years to come.

The Statue would be inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister T. Rajaiah and Speaker S. Madhusudhana Chary.

Interestingly, Sai Baba Silpasala also sculptured Telangana Talli statue, a 7-ft-tall structure adorning the prime spot at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad.
