Majority of trucks operators in Andhra Pradesh have decided to apply for temporary permits to conduct services in Telangana on Wednesday.
Truck and private bus operators had suspended services protesting the Telangana government’s move to impose road tax on vehicles from Andhra Pradesh. However, some private bus operators approached the High Court, which issued interim orders, permitting them to operate services on production of copies of vehicle documents and indemnity bonds at check posts.
“However, this [interim order] is applicable only to operators who approached the court, and the rest have to pay tax. Hence, we have decided to apply for temporary permit for a week to conduct services in Telangana,” Andhra Pradesh Lorry Owners Association general secretary Y.V. Eswara Rao said.
While some truck operators wanted to suspend services till Tuesday (the next day of hearing the case in the High Court), most have decided to apply for temporary permits.
“The interim order [for temporary permit] is applicable only to operators who approached the court, and the rest have to pay tax. Hence, we have decided to apply for temporary permit for a week to conduct services in Telangana.”
