Anthya pushkaralu to begin tomorrow

July 30, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:02 am IST - KARIMNAGAR:

The stage is all set for the Anthya Pushkaralu of river Godavari to be held in various parts of Karimnagar district from July 31 to August 11. This would also be the closure of the once-in-12-years Godavari pushkaralu, which was held from July 14 to 27 last year.

During Godavari pushkaralu last year, there was poor inflow of water into the river following drought. The Irrigation authorities released water from the Kadem project in Adilabad district for pilgrims to take the holy bath at Dharmapuri, Koti Lingala, Manthani, Ramagundam, Kamanpur and other mandals. Only the Kaleshwaram shrine witnessed heavy flows.

At all the bathing ghats, the authorities had erected showers due to poor inflow of water from the Godavari river. Now, it is the other way round.

This year, the river received good inflows following rains. Heavy flow was reported at Dharmapuri, Manthani, and Kaleshwaram shrines, among other mandals, where the river flows in the district.

Last year, the district authorities conducted the Godavari pushkarams along the shores of the Godavari river in various mandals by constructing bathing ghats. But during the Anthya pushkaralu, it had decided to conduct celebrations only at Dharmapuri, Manthani and Kaleshwaram.

No pushkarams at

Koti Lingala

The authorities have decided not to conduct the Godavari Anthya Pushkaralu at Koti Lingala due to the bathing ghats getting submerged at the shrine, following heavy inflows from the backwaters of Sripada Yellampalli project.
