Chemistry and literature are poles apart, but K. Veera Reddy, who assumed charge as Vice-Chancellor of Satavahana University here, is comfortable straddling both.

A teacher in chemistry in Osmania University for more than four decades, Prof. Veera Reddy’s ambition for writing was fulfilled after assuming charge as Vice-Chancellor of Satavahana University here. He has to his credit ‘Bhaswaralu’ (glow of potassium), a collection of poems. On Thursday, he released another book titled ‘Kaalam Adugulu’ (steps of time), another collection of poems. Prof. Reddy has won accolades for his collection of poems on various issues, including social, nature, festivals and emotions.

“I never thought that I will test my skills in my mother tongue. But, after coming back to Karimnagar and after assuming charge as Vice- Chancellor and interacting with eminent poets of the town, I could fulfil my dream of writing poems from this land which has produced several literary luminaries,” he said.

A big fan of Sachin Tendulkar, he penned his first 90-line poem after the master blaster announced his retirement. The poem was published in the magazine Neti Nijam , and Prof. Reddy has not looked back since then. The Vice-Chancellor, who has to his credit six textbooks on chemistry, including an international book, said: “If I had not come to Karimnagar, I would never have been a writer.”

His inspiration is Dr. C. Narayan Reddy. He also loves nature and has penned several poems on the subject. He plans to release another book next year.
