The Bharatiya Janata Party has accused K. Chandrasekhar Rao-led Telangana government of failing to take the welfare programmes launched by the Centre to the grassroots level.
BJP national president Amit Shah said schemes such as Swachh Abhiyan, involving the construction of latrines in all households, were yet to reach Telangana villages. “As many as 4.5 crore toilets are being constructed as part of the Swachh Abhiyan. There are no toilets in the houses I visited. This exposes the government’s failure to take the scheme to the grassroots level,” he said. The BJP president arrived in Nalgonda on Monday on a three-day visit. He interacted with members of booth-level committees, besides participating in community lunch with residents, majority of them women of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes.
He interacted with people during a brief door-to-door survey to get a first-hand knowledge of implementation of schemes launched by the Centre for Dalits, women and youth. He distributed pamphlets detailing the schemes to educate the residents of their benefits.
Mr. Shah unfurled the party flag in the hitherto Left-dominated village, besides unveiling the statue of Mysaiah Goud, a party worker killed by naxalites almost two decades ago.
He said he had interacted with voters in three polling booths as part of the drive and 4.5 lakh dedicated party cadre drew up schedules ranging from a fortnight to six months to propagate the party ideals and schemes launched by the BJP-led government across the country.
The BJP was the largest political party in the world with had over 11 crore members and was in power in 13 States, he said.
“Given the manner in which the party has been struggling for the public cause in the past couple of years, I am confident it will form a government in Telangana in the coming days,” he said.
Mr. Shah left for Nalgonda from Theratpalli to participate in closed door meetings with party leaders of district and State committees.
