Teachers impasse continues in Adilabad

The advisory committee of the Adivasis, formed in December last to oversee the current movement of the aboriginal people with the demand to remove Lambadas from the list of Scheduled Tribes, on Friday asked for a few days’ time to take a decision with regard to permitting Lambada teachers to rejoin duty.

They said the community had taken a decision on not allowing Lambada teachers in Tribal Welfare schools and the committee could not take a decision without wider consultations were held the committee could not take a decision.

Assurance sought

At a meeting chaired by Adilabad Collector D. Divya to resolve the issue, the committee members expressed concern over the State government’s continued silence on the issue. They said a way out would be possible only if the government gives them some assurance on their demand.

The Adivasi committee comprising district head of Rai Centres Mesram Durgu, Madavi Raju, Sidam Bheem Rao and Vedma Bojju among thers, also urged the district administration not to issue Agency Area certificates or Local Scheduled Tribe certificates to Lambadas. The Collector had urged the elders to rethink on the issue at least to save the academic year for students appearing for SSC exams this year.

Some rejoin duty

Meanwhile, the Kumram Bheem Asifabad district administration is said to have asked some of the Lambada teachers to report to duty in schools in plains areas. The teachers however, were given only oral instructions.

Reports also said that Lambada teachers at some places in the district had rejoined duty. in their respective schools. There was no objection raised from the Adivasis at such places.
