A village revenue officer (VRO) was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 3,500 from a villager at Ganneruvaram of Bejjanki mandal in Karimnagar district on Tuesday. ACB DSP T. Sudarshan Goud said that the farmer P. Yellaiah had applied for entry of his land details in the computer pahanis. The authorities had already collected Rs. 6,000 from him to enter a part of the land details. Again, the VRO P. Naveen demanded Rs. 5,000 for entering the remaining 19 guntas of land in the computer pahani.

Accordingly, the farmer went to the VRO office in the village and handed over Rs. 5,000 on Tuesday. The VRO accepted Rs. 3,500 and asked the villager to purchase a rice cooker for him with the remaining Rs. 1,500 and by adding additional amount if required. The ACB authorities caught him red-handed and recovered the bribe amount.
