AAP demands improvement in education sector

May 06, 2015 04:37 pm | Updated 04:53 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Telangana unit, here on Wednesday demanded that the Telangana Government improve the quality of education across the State. The AAP members also said that a public meeting to be attended by parents will be held here on May 11 to discuss issues about the pricing of fees in private schools.

“The ‘KG to PG’ programme for school children should be extended to all students in the State and just not for a selected few, to help everyone pursue education of their choice,” said Prof. P. V. Vishweshwar Rao, spokesperson, AAP, Telangana unit. He added that the State Government should also implement G.O. 42 from the current academic year to regulate fees.

Naseema, a member of the AAP, also said that no school was implementing reservations for minorities in schools in Hyderabad. Prof. Rao, addressing a press conference, also mentioned that private schools must provide 25 per cent seats for economically backward clases as per the Right to Education (RTE) Act.

“We are working to gather parents to discuss about the fees paid in private colleges. We want to discuss issues regarding the topic. Not a single resolution has been passed by the State Government about these issues,” Prof. Rao stated.
