It was a burst of creativity from across the country on display at the Shrishti Art Gallery as the curtain went up on the eighth edition of Emerging Palettes. “I had a tough time choosing the works as these artists are sure about their work and what they want to create. They don’t have doubts. They are in command of the medium,” said senior artist Laxma Goud and one of the jurors who selected the works of art submitted by students who completed MFA course and some who have been practicing for the past four years.

On a day when the nation is toasting the success of P.V. Sindhu in Rio Olympics, Tanvi Jain posited an interactive work that juxtaposed text and human hair to raise a question about feminism and its relation to hair. Then there was a hyper-realism painting showing a slice of village created by Chinmayee Behra from Odisha. The 17 artists who are showing their works have been selected from across the country.

“There is a varied palette here. The choice is huge. We thought that we need to expand the horizons and expose local artists to works of others at the same time showing artists from other places of the country what Hyderabad artists are doing,” said Amita Desai of Goethe Zentrum, one of the key organisers of the event. A few works are also on display at Hamburg Hall of GZ in Panjagutta.

“It has been a satisfying experience to put up this show as some of the works have an air of freshness. And, for the first time, we allowed artists who passed out four years ago to compete and that’s added to the quality of the works,” said Laxmi of Shrishti Art Gallery.
