A breather for police personnel

Those working in police stations will get a weekly-off from June 25.

Karimnagar district police, who launched several reforms for people-friendly policing and bring attitudinal change among police personnel, announced weekly-offs for the personnel working in all police stations from June 25 onwards.

Accordingly, the district police machinery designed a software which would work through the intranet of the department in all police stations. The personnel working round the clock in police stations where they do not have any shift system, would heave a sigh of relief with the new system of availing weekly offs introduced for the first time.

Applicable to all

Right from the ranks of Constable to Inspector, the personnel can avail weekly-offs in the district. The offs would be finalised on every Saturday during the weekly meeting by the concerned Sub-Inspector for all Constables, Head Constables, and ASIs of each police station. The weekly offs of SIs would be finalised by the Circle Inspector, whose off would then be decided by the concerned Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO). After finalising the offs, the concerned officer will upload information to the district headquarters every Saturday evening.

The authorities have ensured all the personnel working in the police station get weekly-offs, which were earlier not applicable to the personnel working in urban areas such as Karimnagar and Ramagundam regions. Nobody will be able to avail casual leave after the weekly off. The software allows only one leave, whether it is weekly off or casual leave.

Superintendent of Police D. Joel Davis told The Hindu on Wednesday that the weekly off would be introduced to give some time for the personnel to spend with family members and take up other personal work, as well as relax. The system would be applicable to all police personnel working in the police stations, and it would not be implemented for district guards and others, Mr. Davis added.

The SP said that they would ensure that weekly offs would continue even when VVIPs visit the district. If a situation warrant, the weekly offs would be discontinued disabled, he said.
