The movement launched by the BJP Kisan Morcha opposing the shifting of the ambitious leather park from Rukmapur village of Choppadandi mandal in Karimnagar district to Station Ghanpur in Jangaon district is gaining momentum with all the dalit organisations deciding to intensify the agitation.

At a roundtable conference organised by the BJP Kisan Morcha in the town on Tuesday, leaders of the dalit organisations decided to hold ‘Chalo Collectorate’ programme on February 6 demanding the setting up of leather park in Rukmapur itself. Speakers at the meeting also decided to launch agitations in a phased manner - such as relay hunger strikes, besieging residences of all TRS leaders, besides, ‘Chalo Hyderabad’.

Flaying the TRS district unit leaders for remaining silent spectators when Jangaon district leaders are shifting the leather park to Station Ghanpur, the speakers flayed Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for betraying people of Karimnagar district.

They also said that Rukmapur village is ideal for setting up leather park as it is centrally located in North Telangana and has 134 acres of land, while Station Ghanpur has only 25 acres of land.

BJP Kisan Morcha national general secretary P. Sugunakar Rao, BJP Choppadandi Assembly segment in-charge Lingampalli Shankar, BJP leaders -- T. Harikumar Goud, K. Odelu, TJAC leader Venkata Mallaiah, dalit association leaders M. Papaiah, Medi Mahesh, Kumar and others participated in the conference.

TPCC SC cell chairman Arepalli Mohan also condemned the State Government’s decision to shift the leather park. He wanted the government to set up the leather park at its original sanctioned place as it was accorded all permissions from the Centre.

Meanwhile, Karimnagar District Dalit Leather Park Sadhana Committee leaders have threatened to launch agitations demanding the setting up of the leather park in Karimnagar district itself.

Committee leader B. Venkata Mallaiah, U. Ramaswamy, A. Ramaiah, K. Shankaraiah and others demanded that the government stop its move to shift the leather park from Karimnagar district to Station Ghanpur.
