The indefinite fast launched by assistant professors (under contract) at the Telangana University seeking regularisation of services and equal pay for equal work entered the second day on Wednesday.
They boycotted academic classes and continued the agitation. Activists of the PDSU, TVV, TNSF, Out Sourcing Employees’ Association and BC Students’ Union called on them and expressed solidarity with the contract teaching staff. Regular teaching and non-teaching staff of the TU also extended support to their demands.
Speaking on the occasion, assistant professor D. Johnson said that regularisation of the services of the contract assistant professors and payment of equal salary to them on par with the regular teaching staff would not be objectionable to anyone.
The agitating teaching staff said that they would continue the struggle till their demands were met. They assured the students of taking extra classes even on holidays to cover the entire syllabus.
