Proposed Malkapur reservoir poses threat of submerging Lingampally village, hamlets near by

February 11, 2017 11:50 pm | Updated 11:51 pm IST - JANGAON DT:

Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari on Saturday assured villagers of Lingampally of considering their request for redesigning the proposed Malkapur reservoir; otherwise, he would do justice to those getting displaced.

About 100 villagers from Lingampally came to Hanamkonda to meet the Deputy Chief Minister. They contended that the proposed Malkapur reservoir would submerge their entire village and surrounding hamlets. The reservoir was part of the Godavar Lift Irrigation scheme and was proposed by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao with 10 TMC capacity. Recently, the Cabinet had cleared the proposal. The villagers said if the capacity of the reservoir was limited to 8 TMC, their village might not face submergence.

Mr Srihari gave them a patient hearing and said he would interact with the engineers and see if their proposal was feasible.
