Residents of eight habitations taking out a rally demanding the stoppage of the Pranahitha-Chevella project works until they are rehabilitated, in Nizamabad on Monday.

Residents of Satishnagar, Muzhattnagar, Osmanpura, Akbar Bagh, Ibrahimnagar, Shalininagar, Lakshminagar, Dharmapuri Hills and Ahmed Nagar, here on Monday, under the banner of the AIMIM took out an impressive rally and staged dharna on the premises of the Collector office demanding the government stop marking of locations for vacating for the construction of Pranahitha-Chevella project Package-20 until they are provided the rehabilitation with pacca houses.

In a representation to district Collector Yogitha Rana, they said that they had been living in about 800 houses for the last 30 years in the said colonies in the periphery of the district headquarters town. “We were provided housesite pattas by the government, and on which we constructed pacca houses over a period of time,” they said.

When the government sanctioned the project, authorities of Revenue and Irrigation departments did the survey in the year 2010 and as per which the authorities said the colonies would be affected. Upon being apprised of their woes, the then Chief Minister N. Kirankumar Reddy assured the residents that they would not be evicted unless alternative houses are constructed for them, said former deputy mayor Meer Majaz Ali, who led the rally.

Again in 2015, the authorities without giving notices got down to demarcate the route map of the construction of the canal under Package-20. However, the High Court stayed the execution of work as the residents moved the court. The court clearly directed the authorities not to disturb the residents until further orders.

Mr. Majaz Ali said that the authorities to the utter dismay of the residents launched the marking work three days back. Hence, the poor residents are living in fear of losing their houses. He appealed to the Collector to use her good offices and stop the survey work immediately.
