President to attend OU centenary in April

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday extended an invitation to President Pranab Mukherjee for the Centenary celebrations of Osmania University (OU) scheduled to be held in Hyderabad for three days in April.

The Chief Minister, who was in national capital for three days, called on the President and urged him to participate in the centenary celebrations to be held from April 26 to 28. He has extended similar invitation to Union Minister Prakash Javadekar.

The Chief Minister was originally scheduled to lead an all-party delegation seeking categorisation of certain sections in in the Schedule Castes (SCs) from the State for a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and to discuss various other issues related to Telangana. However, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has put off the proposed meeting.

In the course of his interaction with the President, the Chief Minister apprised the President of post-demonetisation situation and political scenario in Telangana.

According to Jitender Reddy, Telangana Rashtra Samithi MP, Mr. Rao in a separate meeting with Mr. Javadekar requested him to sanction IIM for Telangana as was promised by the Centre and also one Kendriya Vidyalaya for each district in the new State. The Union Minister was urged to allot funds for Osmania University development.

Pranab may come on April 26

Mr. Jithender Reddy told mediapersons later that Pranab Mukherjee was expected to attend the centenary celebrations on the inaugural day (April 26). Other dignitaries invited will also attend the prestigious event, he said.

Mr. Jithender Reddy said that the Centre is to allot funds for the Osmania University development. Also present were Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari, MPs B. Vinod Kumar and K. Keshav Rao.
