Upping the ante against the demonetisation-induced cash crisis, All India Congress Committee (AICC) member P C Vishnunath flayed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly leaving crores of poor people mainly toiling masses, worst hit by demonetisation across the country, in the lurch even after the expiry of the 50-day time sought by him to end the cash woes.
Mr Vishnunath, who is the convener of the party zonal committee on anti-demonetisation campaign, reviewed the arrangements for the ensuing month-long anti-demonetisation protest programmes, at a meeting held at the District Congress Committee office here on Monday.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, vice-president D. Sridhar Babu, the party deputy floor leader in the Legislative Council P. Sudhakar Reddy, TPCC general secretary Syed Azmatullah and others were present. Mr. Vishnunath said the Congress party will hold dharnas in all district headquarters towns, including Khammam, across the country on January 7 to protest against the “unabated demonetisation woes.” A series of protest programmes will be organised all over the country for the next one month as part of the first phase of nation-wide anti-demonetisation campaign, he said. Terming the demonetisation exercise as the “biggest scam” orchestrated by some big corporate entities, Mr. Vikramarka alleged that the “draconian move” played havoc with the lives of millions of poor people depriving them of their means of livelihood across the country.
People’s woes
Millions of people in the country have been reeling under cash woes unable to withdraw their hard-earned money from the banks even as the black money hoarders remained unaffected, he charged.
Mr. Sridhar Babu called upon the rank and file of the party to actively spearhead the anti-demonetisation protest programmes to highlight the plight of millions of people particularly farmers, agricultural labourers, street vendors and workers in unorganised sector, hard hit by demonetisation.
Earlier, the speakers at the review meeting demanded that the Centre release a white paper on demonetisation, remove restrictions on withdrawal of money from banks, and implement concrete measures to provide succour to poor people badly affected by the move.
