City golfer Rahul Ajay held his own on the greens of Malaysia to clinch the honours in the Kids World Golf Championship recently and is now aiming for bigger glory in the days to come.

This 16-year-old left behind the competitors from other nations, including Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and South Africa, to emerge winner late last month in the event played against an aggregate score over three rounds.

For someone who started wielding the club at the age of 10, Ajay got hooked to the sport and was always determined to script a new chapter on the golf course.

A product of Hyderabad Golf Club, Ajay has been taking part in the national juniors circuit organised by the Indian Golf Union, the governing body of the sport in the country. The critics feel that this 6-foot, 5-inch golfer can go to places given his focus and passion for the sport.

“I was introduced to golf at the age of nine and got hooked to the game and played my first competitive tournament at 10. Though I finished last in that, I got a feel of what is the spirit of the game and what it means to compete at that level. Since then, I have not looked back and enjoying every outing,” says Ajay, a student of Santa Maria International SchoolThe young champion golfer says that he can understand the mechanics and technicality of golf better and that helps him to gel with his coaches. “I am specially grateful to Indrajit Bhalotia who picked me from the juniors group and trained with special focus,” he acknowledges.

Not surprisingly, Ajay is now gunning to break into the elite circle of golfers. “It is a long way but I am ready to embark on that journey and realise my dream of being among the best from the country,” he signs off.
