Chai, biscuits served to senior citizens at park

January 10, 2017 12:22 am | Updated 12:22 am IST - KARIMNAGAR:

In order to improve its relations with senior citizens and instil confidence among them, the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar launched the ‘Chai-Biscuit’ programme for the elderly who came for a morning walk at the municipal park in Housing Board colony in Karimnagar town on Monday.

Mayor S. Ravinder Singh launched the first such programme at the municipal park, where tea and biscuits were served to around 100-odd senior citizens. Incidentally, the Mayor donated ₹8,000 for the programme so that it could go on for a period of one month.

Responding to the call to contribute for the same, several persons at the park came forward to contribute to the programme so that hot tea and biscuits could be provided to the elderly so they could get some relief after the walk, as a majority of them would be diabetic.

Mr. Singh said that the decision to serve tea and biscuits was taken on humanitarian grounds to help develop healthy relations with elderly persons. The municipal corporation would launch the programme in municipal parks in Vavilalapalli, Rajiv Gandhi park, and Kashmirgadda soon with the contributions from philanthropists.
