Collector Yogitha Rana said the government would open as many as 12 residential schools for religious minorities across the district during the academic year 2017-2018. She appealed to the parents to send their children to such schools for free and standardised education.
Launching a vehicle to carry out the campaign to enlighten parents about the availability of residential education for minority students here on Wednesday, Ms. Rana said that the schools would take in an equal number of girls and boys. To begin with, education would be provided to students from classes 5 to 8.
In each school, there would be 240 students and 75% of the seats would be allotted to religious minorities such as Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Jains, and Parsis, and the remaining for SC, ST, and BC students. Enrolment would be given based on a written test, the Collector said.
In due course of time, the schools would be upgraded to Intermediate level and facilities such as labs would be made available. The vehicle would go around every village to enlighten the parents about the same, Ms. Rana said.
