The Cement Corporation of India (CCI) Employees Union, which has been spearheading all efforts associated with revival of the CCI unit in Adilabad, will appeal against the order of a single judge bench of Hyderabad High Court given two days ago which dismissed its appeal to stop closure of the factory.

“We are not satisfied with the judgment,” declared CCIEU general secretary S. Vilas as he discussed the outcome of the judgement.

The CCI unit in Adilabad started functioning in 1984 and suspended production in 1998. Many of its 500 employees and staff opted for postings elsewhere or took voluntary retirement barring the 47 who continue to be on rolls. There are some 100 contract labourers associated with the factory who were also eagerly awaiting the outcome of the writ petition filed by the CCIEU.

Talking to The Hindu on Sunday, Mr. Vilas pointed out that the employees of CCI’s Adilabad unit were subjected to injustice as the factory’s case was not considered for revival during the Congress-led UPA regime.

He said the Union Cabinet had approved revival of three units of the CCI, including Adilabad, but subsequently it was excluded from the list to be replaced by the Bokaijan unit in Assam.
