Alternative and sustainable livelihood would be provided to the families that give up brewing of spurious liquor and they would be helped get bank loans ranging from ₹5 to 10 lakh for the purpose, Excise and Youth Services Minister T. Padma Rao said.
The Minister conducted a review at the Collectorate here on Monday.
The government is ready to extend to all the districts the rehabilitation package being provided to those who withdrew liquor brewing in Dhoolpet in Hyderabad.
Proposal sought
He asked the Excise officials to identify such families and send a proposal.
He told the officials that it was imperative that they dissuade the families from manufacturing ‘gudumba’ and country liquor and show them alternate sustainable livelihood to enable them to lead a respectable life in society.
Strengthen field staff
Efforts are on to strengthen the Prohibition and Excise Department by providing them own buildings and other facilities, the Minister said.
Mr. Padma Rao asked the officials to talk to the collectors and get a suitable land allocated for construction of excise stations. Vehicles would be sanctioned to excise inspectors and allocations made in the budget, he said adding that station maintenance costs would also be given.
Fresh recruitment
Appreciating the excise authorities for their efforts in making the State free from illicit liquor brewing, he said that if need be he would talk to Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar to expedite the process of recruiting additional staff in the department.
Exercise to give promotions to the staff in the department would begin soon, he said and asked the officials to focus on growing palm trees.
Government Whip Gampa Govardhan, Collector N. Satyanarayana and Deputy Commissioner of Excise David Ravikanth were present.
