Police on Wednesday seized 900 gelatine sticks and 1,500 electric detonators after nabbing two persons who illegally procured them from some source. Meanwhile, security was strengthened all over the city following intelligence alerts about terror attacks before Republic Day.

One of the accused, M. Madhusudhan Reddy, 37, building contractor, was earlier arrested by the Banjara Hills police on a similar charge. The second accused D. Jangaiah, 47, was a stone cutting contractor from Kanchanbagh in Old City, Hyderabad Task Force (South) Inspector K. Suryaprakash Rao told The Hindu.

On a tip-off, the TF officials caught Reddy who was delivering the explosive substances to Jangaiah near Champapet. Reddy admitted to police that he procured them from a license holder Rama Krishna of Nalgonda in large quantities.

“I was making money by selling them at a higher price to rock blasting contractors in construction industry,” he was quoted as saying by the investigators. The duo along with the seized material was handed over to the Kanchanbagh police for further investigation.
