₹2,232 cr. for upgrade of roads in old Medak district

Project includes proposals for ORRs in Sangareddy, Medak and Siddipet

As part of State government’s focus on improving road network in the State 1,841 km roads are scheduled to be upgraded in erstwhile Medak district.

₹2,232 crore was sanctioned for the upgradation of roads in Medak, Sangareddy and Siddipet districts in the last two-and-a-half years. The three districts together have 2,500 km road network under the jurisdiction of Road and Buildings (R&B) department, R&B Superintendent Engineer K. Radhakrishna told media here on Monday.

The department has been sanctioned 394 works that covers 1,841 kilometres of roads, including widening, renewal and new roads, and 71 bridges out of which 175, including laying road for 122 km at a cost of ₹928 crore was completed. Also 16 bridges were completed at a cost of ₹ 73 crore.

Under renewal of roads 21 works covering 799 km was completed at a cost of ₹388 crore and 28 stretches of roads have been widened covering 422 kilometres spending ₹497 crore.

The SE R&B said that the widening system was modified and they were considering longitudinal and horizontal profiles before executing the works.

There were proposals to build a 45 km long outer ring road (ORR) for Sangareddy at a cost of ₹200 crore. For Medak the ORR would be 26 km and is estimated to cost ₹110 crore. For Siddipet the ORR is expected to cost ₹300 crore for stretch of Rs. 80 km. The proposals were already sent to the government with a detail plan, he added.

District Executive Engineer K. Venkateswarlu andDeputy Superintending Engineer Archipus were present.
