The government’s reported move to further extend the last date for the Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS) and Building Regularisation Scheme (BRS) up to March 1 may prove a windfall for the Khammam Municipal Corporation.

The civic body received an overwhelming number of over 14,500 applications under the BRS and LRS till January 31.

Thanks to the good response to both the schemes, the corporation netted revenue of around Rs. 20 crore in the form of initial penal amount from the applicants so far, sources said. The government’s move to extend the last date for both the schemes by another month is poised to fetch huge income to the civic body.

The division-wise campaign conducted by the town planning and other wings of the civic body to publicise the BRS and LRS during the fag end of last year paid rich dividends.

The civic authorities are expecting a multi-fold increase in revenue with the government reportedly giving its nod for extending the last date for submission of applications under both the schemes. “We are hopeful that revenue from both the BRS and LRS will cross Rs. 75 crore and may even touch the Rs. 100-crore figure going by the good response to both the schemes,” said G. Venugopal Reddy, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Khammam.
