Two persons died of sunstroke in Adilabad district on Monday, while the death of a third person owing to the heat wave could not be confirmed even as a maximum of 44.3 degree Celsius was recorded.

Karithe Anand, a 45-year-old labourer from Malini in Tanur mandal, and Jenne Durgaiah, aged 47 of Motlaguda in Dahegaon mandal, succumbed to dehydration early in the day.

According to the police, the former was collecting firewood the previous day and fell ill after reaching home in the evening. Similarly, Durgaiah, who collected beedi leaves in hot sun returned home only to fall sick on Sunday.

Meanwhile, vegetable farmers were a worried lot due to the continuing heat wave as the weather has started impacting the crop. “Pollination does not take place if the temperatures cross 42 degree Celsius which means decline in production and the crop needs more watering to be done,” said progressive vegetable farmer from Mannur Githe Keshav, who is the Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency member from Gudihatnoor mandal.

The crops which are likely to be affected by the high temperatures are chilli, gourds of different kinds and leafy vegetables. There is however, likelihood that the farmers will get better price for their produce in the event of a shortage.

Sangareddy Staff Reporter adds: The heat wave continued in Medak district on Monday with seven deaths being reported till afternoon. They were identified as Bharatamma (60) at Chinnamasanpally in Daultabad mandal,  Bhumaiah (60) at Kangal at Toguta mandal,  Tirumalavva (35) at Shivaipally at Ramayampet mandal, Dandu Ramavva (60) at Lakshmidevipally in Siddipet mandal and Rajeswari (60) at Peddakodur village in Chinnakodur mandal died of sunstroke so far in the district.

Two more deaths, Govani Galiaiah at Choutkur and Chapala Shailaja at Shivampet, reported in Pulkal mandal.

They were suffering from dehydration and severe fever caused by sunstroke, according to information reaching here. Two others also reportedly fell prey to the heat wave in Yellareddi mandal.
