A day after 12 Assistant Engineers of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation were arrested in the case of attempting to claim ₹1.10 crore by presenting fabricated bills for silt removal work, the Commissioner B.Janardhan Reddy on Saturday placed all of them under suspension.

The 12 AEs were summoned by the Hyderabad Central Crime Station officials for questioning over their alleged role in the irregularities in the silt removal work in Central Zone and arrested. They were later released on bail.

Protesting the police action, the GHMC engineers carrying placards gathered outside the head office near Tank Bund and raised slogans against the police charging them with arresting them without any proper enquiry. The engineer maintained that in the name of questioning they wre summoned to the CCS and arrested, which was unfortunate. “As per CCA rules, without conducting a proper enquiry and arresting the gazetted rank officers is unfortunate,” they added.
