Aspiring to enter the record books, as many as 1,000 poets from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh recited poems in a day-long session in the town on Sunday.
Organised by the Telangana Rythu Harvesters’ Association, the poets took part in Krushi Kavitha programme where they recited poems on farmers and related issues pertaining to government welfare programmes and Haritha Haram. All the 1,000 poems recited by them would be brought out as a book .
With the help of social media, the organisers mobilised the poets. After the inauguration of the programme by eminent poets Shikamani and Nalemela Bhaskar, the organisers formed the poets into groups.
In each group, the poets from various parts of the Telugu-speaking States recited poems from till evening. The closing ceremony was attended by BJP national general secretary P. Muralidhar Rao and others. On the occasion, the organisers felicitated all the participants.
The Telangana Rythu Harvesters’ Association president K. Gopal Reddy said he wanted to give a platform to all the poets to share their views on the farming community. “I wanted to ensure that the literature on farmers reach them. That’s the reason for bringing out a book with all the poems in it,” he said.
A poet and coordinator of the event, Madishetty Gopal, said the programme was aimed at spreading the importance of Telugu language, one of the largest spoken languages in the country.
