Nearly 100 technical workers from Kurnool district have reportedly got stranded in Libya, according to reports. The workers migrated to Libya on work visa two years ago, and their permit will expire in a week.

The families, growing anxious about the safety of the workers owing to the unsafe conditions prevailing in that country, contacted some of them a few days ago. Apparently, the workers told their family members that their safe return had become difficult on account of the agency refusing to relieve them immediately and also the non-cooperative attitude of the Indian Embassy officials who cited cancellation of flights as the reason for their failure to make arrangements for the worker’s return.

As news of stranded workers was telecast by television channels on Monday, the workers reportedly requested their families back at Cement Nagar not to feed press persons with negative information, as it would further endanger their safety.

They said their visa-related papers were in the custody of the contract agency. The family of a worker said his contract had ended a few weeks ago, but the agency had refused to relieve him on the ground that he should continue until a replacement was available. Meanwhile, workers, who were expected to travel to Libya, postponed their journey since the fighting broke out in Tripoli and other places.

Meanwhile, Revenue officials visited the families of the stranded workers at Cement Nagar. The officials said they would ascertain the facts from the families and report to the government for further action.

The Bethamcharla Tahsildar and police visited Cement Nagar, and met the relatives of these workers. Police also visited the place.
