Hectic promotional tour schedule notwithstanding, Shahrukh Khan chose not to miss a friends’ wedding in the city. Graciously obliging media, he spoke on a gamut of topics, going beyond cinema.

He revealed that he doesn’t read newspapers anymore. “These days it’s great fun to wake up in the morning because my little son wakes me up. I convince him to give me a quick hug..it’s a quiet moment for me..I don’t watch television, I don’t read newspapers anymore. I just have three cups of coffee.”

Life balance

Pondering on life he said, “When someone says I have it all, I want to say that everything in life has a parallel to balance it; every good has a bad, every black has white, every happy has a sad...I have to give it all to people who love me so much, to my family and to my films that made me who I am. Now I keep thinking how can I return all this to the films. I am 51 and lot of people will enter films, will they take away something nice from my experience? Should I give them a lecture or should I write a book? Or through my behaviour should I teach them something? Even to my own children...what can I teach them? And in terms of roles, what can I do new? What can I do that will benefit Indian cinema..all those things come to my mind.”

Ethical values

On his character in Raees , he said, “Morally he’s got a good compass. If you isolate him in the world he lives in, he’s not a good guy — he kills people, he beats people, he’s mean whichever part of the world you live in. That world defines you. In the bad world, he’s a good man, in a good world, he’s a bad man. Similarly the world I live in, I try to have as much as a moral compass as I can. Because I have come to one conclusion in life. I have learnt that short term gains, belittling someone, short changing someone, trying do wrong to people will never give you longievity. I had been doing this job for 25 years, people ask me how come you have done for so long. It was possible only because I have morally and ethically been right. I’ve never cheated with my work. I’ve been as honest as you can be in this world,” the film star concluded.
