A court on Monday extended by 12 more days the judicial custody of Tarun Tejpal, Editor-in-Chief of Tehelka magazine and accused in a sexual assault case. He will next be produced in the court on January 4.

In another development, Mr. Tejpal moved a bail application before the district and sessions court, Panaji, on Monday. The same will be heard on Thursday.

As his initial judicial custody of 12 days expired on Sunday, he was produced in the court. The Crime Branch had moved an application seeking extension of his judicial custody by 14 more days.

Mr. Tejpal, charged with sexually assaulting a woman colleague, has been lodged in Sada sub-jail at Vasco in south Goa.

To a question from the judge whether he had any complaints about his judicial custody at Sada sub-jail, Mr. Tejpal said, “No not at all.”

Later, Mr. Tejpal’s lawyer moved a bail application before the district and sessions court stating that all recoveries had been made from him and his presence was not needed for any further investigation.

The application also said all witnesses had been examined and statements recorded. Hence, the question of the accused influencing anybody won’t arise.
