Editor-in-Chief of Tehelka magazine Tarun Tejpal, accused of sexually assaulting a junior woman colleague, was subjected to mandatory medical tests on Monday.

In a related development, a Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court, Panaji, reserved her orders for Wednesday on an application moved by Mr. Tejpal’s counsel for installing a fan in the police lock-up where he is lodged. Lawyer for the prosecution opposed the demand.

Mr. Tejpal was remanded in police custody for six days on Sunday.

Investigating Officer (IO) of the Crime Branch, Sunita Sawant, confirmed on Monday evening that Mr. Tejpal was taken for several medical tests such as DNA and sexual potency tests, first at the Goa Medical College hospital, Bambolim, and later at the State Institute of Psychiatric & Human Behaviour.

Mr. Tejpal was arrested by the Goa police late on Saturday evening after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the District and Sessions Judge Anuja Prabhudesai.
