January 13, 2013 01:51 am | Updated 01:51 am IST - Patna:

Rupam Pathak, a schoolteacher who was sentenced to life for the murder of Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Raj Kishore Keshri, walked out of the Bhagalpur jail on Saturday, official sources told The Hindu .

Ms. Pathak was granted bail by the Patna High Court earlier this week. “The formalities were completed by 4.30 p.m. I don’t know if she has gone back to her house in Purnea district,” her defence counsel Dinesh Kumar said.

On January 4, 2011, Ms. Pathak stabbed Mr. Keshri, the then BJP MLA from Purnea district, at an open assembly at his residence in full public view. She accused the MLA of sexually harassing her in 2007. Following a CBI probe she was convicted of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
