A tripartite task force has been formed to look into problems faced by contractual workers who are involved in cleaning and maintenance works in various government departments, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.

Answering supplementaries during Question Hour, Labour Minister Mallikarjun Kharge said the ministry has formed the task force to look into the problems of contractual labour engaged in minor works of government departments and ministries.

“The task force will submit its report by December 31 and the ministry will try to resolve whatever problems they face,” he said.

Mr. Kharge said in ministries and departments, only small and minor tasks are outsourced while all internal functions and works are handled by the departmental employees.

To another supplementary, he said labour officers conduct inspections regularly to ensure that there is no violation of contract labour laws and to prosecute employers paying less than prescribed minimum wages.
