The Central Bureau of Investigation is yet to take a final call on the reference from the Centre for a probe into the murder of Arunachal Pradesh student Nido Tania at a South Delhi market on January 29.
According to sources, the agency is examining the case to decide whether it requires a fresh probe. The Delhi Police have already registered a murder case and arrested four of the accused, identified as Pawan, Sunder, Farman and Sunny Uppal. The other two accused, who are juveniles, have also been apprehended.
The case was referred to the CBI after the victim’s parents met Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi a week ago.

Taking cognisance of the matter, the Delhi High Court also issued directions for putting in place mechanisms ensuring the safety and security of people from the northeast. Tania, son of a Congress MLA from Arunachal Pradesh, was attacked by a group of traders in Lajpat Nagar as he objected to racial comments made at him.
