Two boys aged 18 years have been arrested for allegedly trying to sexually assault a 15-year-old girl near the Government Hospital (GH) at Ambur during the early hours of Thursday.

According to the Ambur Town police, the girl had gone to the hospital to look after her mother. At 1.30 a.m. she came out of the hospital to buy tea for her mother. When she was returning, two youths stopped her. While one of them gagged her, the other held a knife and threatened her to go with them.

The incident occurred close to the hospital compound. They managed to drag her for a short distance before the girl raised an alarm. People standing by the tea shop and those inside the hospital ran to her rescue on hearing her scream. The boys left her and fled the spot. Police personnel of the Ambur Town police station were informed. “We alerted a member of the police brigade who was on night rounds. We provided details of what the duo was wearing and he nabbed them near the Bazaar,” a policeman said.

He added that the duo claimed that they had come to the hospital for treatment for a leg injury. They have been arrested and lodged at the Borstal School, Vellore. Apart from being booked under certain sections of IPC, they have been booked under the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act.
