Youth dies during trip to Yercaud

10 friends were going in bike from Chennai

A motorbike trip to Yercaud ended in tragedy for a group of 10 friends. One of them, Manikandan, 21, died after he reportedly rammed his motorbike on the median while overtaking a lorry on National Highway 48, near Kethandapatti early on Saturday.

Three of his friends were injured.

According to the Natrampalli police, Manikandan alias Dinakaran of Villivakkam in Chennai, was part of the group that started the journey on five bikes from Chennai at 11 p.m. on Friday.

The police said the friends in two bikes tried to overtake a lorry near Kethandapatti when Manikandan, who was riding one of the bikes, lost control, rammed into the median and fell down along with the pillion rider. Two persons in the second bike also fell down and sustained injuries. The accident occurred at 3 a.m.

Manikandan died of injuries while the three others are undergoing treatment at a government hospital, police said.
