Youth commits suicide

April 06, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

A youth committed suicide by consuming poison after the usurers allegedly threatened him to repay the loan his father had obtained from them. Police said Manthiramoorthy (52) of Sundara Vinayagar Temple Street in Pettai near Tirunelveli Town had borrowed money from a few moneylenders. When he, a labourer, could not repay the amount, Manthiramoorthy fled to Chennai leaving the family at Pettai itself.

As the usurers started exerting pressure on Manthiramoorthy’s son Esakki Raja (26), also a labourer, and allegedly threatening him to repay the loan with interest, he consumed poison on April 1. He was admitted to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital. However, he breathed his last on Monday midnight.

Pettai police have registered a case based on the complaint from Esakki Raja’s mother Muthulakshmi.
