As many as 110 conservancy workers of Thoothukudi Corporation performed yoga here on Wednesday after listening to commands of yoga teachers.
The programme, inaugurated by Mayor A.P.R. Anthony Grace in the presence of Commissioner R. Poongodi Arumaikan, was held on the premises of the Corporation.
With fervour and enthusiasm, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust celebrated the International Yoga Day on its premises on Tuesday. In a statement on Wednesday, S. Anantha Chandra Bose, Chairman, V.O.C. Port Trust, who inaugurated the yoga session at the multi-purpose hall, said that yoga needed to be integrated into one’s daily life.
The participants performed various asanas like ‘pranayama’, ‘padmasana’, ‘dhanurasana’, ‘vajrasana’ and other basic asanas under the supervision of yoga instructors G. Mahaboob Batcha and Vibitha.
The Chairman distributed prizes to the winners of yoga competition. Yoga sessions were also conducted at Alagar Public School, Kamlavati Higher Secondary School, St. Lasalle Higher Secondary School, Fisheries College and Research Institute.
